⚽ Player Friday - Robert Lewandowski (Edition #9)

The legendary Polish player that still scores!

I didn’t make this post on Friday, however, decided not to miss this. Publishing it on Saturday, still naming it Player Friday though. This time I’ve decided to write about the legendary striker from Poland - Robert Lewandowski. The player who you must know.

Recently, Lewa moved from Munich Bayern to Barcelona and he’s doing his job perfectly, he scores! But before this stage, Robert went through a long list of other clubs. Let’s find out about the player’s history more.

The early career of Lewa

Robert Lewandowski has born on 21 August 1988, in Warsaw, Poland. Starting as an unregistered player for local club Partyzant Leszno, he played for MKS Varsovia Warsaw for 7 years.

He then moved to Delta Warsaw, scoring 4 goals at the end of the season. Lewandowski was the top goalscorer for Polish third division in the 2006-2007 season with 15 goals and the next season, Lewa scored 21 goals and became the top scorer in the Polish second highest division.

In the 2008-2010 season, Robert Lewandowski has been playing in Lech Poznan, the team playing in the top league of Poland. Within 58 appearances, that time still a young and perspective player has scored 32 goals.

And then the big thing came! Robert got an offer from Dortmund Borussia, one of the best teams in Germany.

Robert Lewandowski becomes the top-class star

The stage at Dortmund Borussia started slightly slowly and Lewa in the first season appeared 33 times in Bundesliga by scoring 8 goals. Within the 6 games in the Europa League, he managed to score only once.

The next season was much better and Robert became a really important player for Borussia. In 2011-2012, the Polish star appeared 34 times in the Bundesliga and made 22 goals plus 10 assists. Also, Dortmund Borussia was playing in the Champions League where Lewandowski scored once in 6 games, making 2 assists.

Interestingly, he scored the same amount of goals within the same number of games as in the previous season at the UEFA tournament.

In the next two seasons, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, Robert appeared 64 times and scored 44 goals in the Bundesliga. But these two seasons were way better not for the superstar of Dortmund only, but also for the whole Borussia team.

In the 2012-2013 season of the Champions League, Dortmund Borussia managed to reach the top step of the tournament and in the final lost to another German team Munich Bayern 2:1.

The whole road was impressive for Dortmund and the semi-final ended with an aggregate result of 4:3 eliminating the royal Real Madrid. Our today’s hero, Robert Lewandowski scored even 4 goals in the 1st leg (4:1). Yes! 4 goals by a single player, in the semi-final, and against Real Madrid. The single goal of the opposing team was made by another legend who deserved to appear at Player Friday - Christiano Ronaldo.

The season at the Champions League for Lewa ended with 13 appearances, 10 goals, and 2 assists.

The 2013-2014 season of the CL was also quite good, but this time quarter-finals was the stage where Borussia met Real Madrid again but didn’t manage to go further. Aggregate result - 3:2. The 1st leg ended with a result of 3:0 and in the 2nd leg, Borussia Dortmund was really close after two Reus goals, but they do not succeed to score the 3rd unfortunately.

Lewandowski ended this season of the Champions League with 6 goals and 3 assists during 9 games.

During 4 seasons at Borussia Dortmund, Robert Lewandowski has scored many truly important goals, made a lot of spectacular assists, and became one of the greatest players.

Lewa moves to Munich Bayern

After successful seasons in Dortmund, Lewandowski moved to the Munich club where he quite fast became one of the main players on the team.

Personally, I think all these seasons at Munich Bayern were really great making him one of the best strikers in Europe. Will not write dry stats season by season, so only want to sum up some of the facts. Within 8 seasons at Munich Bayern Robert Lewandowski:

  • Has appeared in 253 games in the Bundesliga where scored 238 goals, and 45 assists

  • An impressive 69 goals and 18 assists within 78 games at the Champions League

  • Played at 8 DFL-Supercup games scoring 6 goals

  • DFB-Pokal where Lewa played 33 games, made 29 goals, and 7 assists

By making a total of 384 appearances with 344 goals and 72 assists in the Munich Bayern making him the 2nd most scoring player on the team (some of the goals were scored in the tournaments not mentioned above). The first place is hardly reachable and belongs to the legend Gerd Müller with 580 games and 563 goals scored. Moreover, the same positions belong to these two players as all-time Bundesliga top scorers.

The stage at Bayern ended the career in Germany too. Robert Lewandowski became the champion of the Bundesliga even 10 times in 12 years, holds 4 German cup winner titles, 6 German Super Cup winner titles, and 1 title of the UEFA Champions League winner title with Bayern in the 2019-2020 season.

Barcelona welcomes Lewandowski

In the current season, Robert started in the squad of Barcelona. After 31 games, Lewa already has 25 goals and 6 assists.

Furthermore, only in 5 Champions League matches, the Polish superstar has 5 goals as well as 1 goal after 2 Europa League games.

Interestingly, Barcelona didn’t manage to get out of the Champions League group stage leaving the previous Lewa’s club in the 1st place and Inter Milan in the 2nd.

With 15 goals within 20 matches, Robert Lewandowski is now the top goal scorer in Spanish La Liga. How impressive is that?

Hero of Poland National Team

Without any doubt, Lewandowski is the best player on the Polish National Team now.

The star managed to score 78 goals for his national team during 138 matches played. It’s not surprising, Lewa is the best striker in the history of the Polish national men's team.

Other Titles and Records of Lewandowski

The career of Robert Lewandowski is mind-blowing and fortunately, it still continues. We can enjoy that we can witness the game of such a brilliant player. It seems that Lewa could add one more title to his impressive list of winnings - the champion of La Liga, also, becoming the top scorer of this season. We will see.
