⚽ How long a goal can be? (Edition #5)

The longest goals ever! 🤯

Monday, again… One day until the Champions League games. Let’s fill this day with more awesome knowledge about football. This time, I am going to find out what the longest goals ever were.

Top Longest Goals Ever

The most spectacular view is seeing a strong, long goal reaching its destination. Beautiful, do you agree with me? This is not what we witness a lot.

However, not all long goals are scored by strikers and strong leggers. The longest goals are scored by goalkeepers. This is not surprising though.

Tom King, Newport - 96.01 meters

The first place in this top belongs to the goalkeeper Tom King. The game was played on January 21, 2021, the Newport County against Cheltenham Town.

Tom King kicked the ball out of his goal area and after bouncing once, the ball ended in the goal of the opposing team. Sadly, it wasn’t enough for Newport to win, the game ended 1-1. However, Tom King became a Guinness World Records record holder.

Asmir Begovic, Stoke City - 91.9 meters

The second place belongs to Asmir Begovic. Back in 2013, by being the goalkeeper of Stoke City, Asmir kicked the ball from 100.5 yards. It has reached its destination and was the longest goal until 2021.

The goal was scored within 13 seconds and it also holds the record for the fastest-scored goal by a GK ever.

Matías Dituro, Bolívar - 86-91.44 meters

The 3rd spot is earned by the goalkeeper too. This time, the game was played in Bolivia, in 2017. In the 95th minute, the result was 2-1, Matías Dituro kicks the ball out of the penalty area and adds to the empty goal making the final result 3-1. The poor Club San José goalkeeper came to help his teammates for a corner and didn’t manage to get back on time.

However, the exact distance of a goal wasn’t measured, but judging from the video, a distance of about 95-100 yards was agreed upon by most football fans.

Diego Ribas da Cunha, Bremen - 62 meters

The list could be continued with many other goals by goalkeepers, however, I wanted to put at least one that was made by a player other than GK.

This Brazilian player scored a goal from an impressive 62 meters (68 yards). The GK of Aachen came to help his team at the very end of a game and was quickly spotted being out of the goal. With the very precise shot, Diego turned the result into 3-1.

By the way, the player ended his career last year, on November 12th.

This ends our post about the longest goals ever scored. As you have may noticed, the longest goals are not the strongest or the most spectacular, however, it proves how accurate players can be. It the professionalism at its best.
